The Cookie Diet- Is this Trend a Good Idea?

Can you really eat cookies to lose weight? There are dozens of diets out there, all promising to lose weight and look better than you ever have. Unfortunately, a lot of the diet fads in the industry are just ploys from companies to get consumers to buy their products. It can be quite a difficult task to sort through all of the new diet trends and figure out which ones actually have a good chance of working. If you have been thinking about trying out the cookie diet, we found out a few things that you may want to take into consideration.

First and foremost, the cookie diet that is presently being marketed all over the Internet, in magazines and on television advertisements will not give you the option to ingest all of your favorite sweets on a daily basis. There are no fresh baked and gooey chocolate chip cookies in this diet and you can forget about peanut butter cookies and those yummy sugar cookies with icing and sprinkles. Instead, the cookies that you are supposed to be eating on the cookie diet come already baked and packaged for you and are sold by mainly three companies. Smart For Life, Hollywood Cookie Diet and Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet and while they do make popular types of cookies, the ingredients might look foreign to the average person. Most of these cookies contain ingredients such as protein powder and glycerin.

If you are still interested, even though you will not be baking up any fresh cookies in your oven at home, then you should think a few minutes about the next few facts. On the cookie diet, it is suggested that consumers eat these cookies in place of the breakfast and lunch meals. Cookies for breakfast may sound first-class, but honestly that might get a little boring after a few days. After you have noshed on these cookies for breakfast and lunch, you are then supposed to eat a healthy dinner that consists of good protein and veggies. At the end of the day, a person who is on the cookie diet will only consume between 800 and1200 calories.

Doing a few quick numbers will easily show that only eating between 800 and 1200 calories per day does give a person a pretty good chance of losing weight. There are still several issues with just eating cookies for the first two meals of your day. We found out that a lot of experts are concerned because the cookie diet does not give a person the ability to eat foods from the food groups. Dinner time is the only time that a person gets to pick what they eat (with restrictions), but that is only one meal a day. While weight loss is possible on the diet, the consumer is not going to be getting what they need for dairy, fruits, vegetables and other proteins. In order to fill in the gap of missing nutrients, the cookie diet companies have suggested that consumers take multi-vitamins. This means that nutrients that you normally get from foods are now going to have to be taken by pill form on a daily basis. Due to this experts are also concerned that people on the cookie diet will have bodies that will go into conservation mode. This means that the body will try to keep itself from losing weight because it will think that it is being deprived since the caloric intake is so low on the cookie diet.

Another concern is the price of the diet. Consumers are always concerned with how much their diets are going to cost, even more so now since the economy is still in a recession. A week’s supply can cost anywhere from around $40.00 to near one hundred dollars depending on the company that supplies your cookies. In most cases, depending on where you live, the cost of the cookies can be more expensive than a monthly gym membership.

Each company has testimonials and examples of people who lost weight on their programs. Hollywood Diet claims that they have done their own inner studies which have shown positive results, but in the end, the cookie diet has only been around for a few years and compared to normal diet and exercise, it seems a little lack luster in the opinion. There are several foods out there that would provide consumers with the same amount of calories and proteins that would actually provide nutrients at the same time. The largest concern however is the lack of nutrients and the fact that the cookie diet may send a person’s body into an unhealthy tailspin since the body may feel deprived. In the end, if you love cookies and want to give it a try than this might be the diet for you, but in the general opinion, the cookie crumbles a little too quickly. The cookie diet is not the first interesting dieting trend that has come to light and it certainly won’t be the last.
